Classroom Rules & Procedures
The following is a summary of the rules and procedures for my classroom:
Classroom Rules
1. Act safely in the classroom.
2. Show respect to all.
3. Because there are computers in the room, no food or drink is allowed.
Supplies
1. Two pencils with erasers
2. 1-Subject spiral bound notebook – to be used as Journal – kept in classroom
3. Basic calculator – when needed
4. Homework assignment notebook
Class Procedures
1. No personal electronics per school guidelines. Stay in your seats.
2. Upon entering the classroom, please drop off your homework (if assigned) in the proper bin for the specific block and then proceed to your seat. Pull out your Journal, Portfolio, pencil, and eraser. Please sharpen your pencils before the start of class. Start to work quietly on the Question of the Day.
3. You will use your notebook as a Journal to record your observations. I will periodically review your Journal. This will be considered a homework assignment and graded accordingly.
4. Only one person is allowed to go to the bathroom at a time. You must sign out and carry the pass while you are outside the classroom. No bathroom breaks during the last 10 minutes of class, except for true emergencies.
5. Your grade is based on the work you submit to me. If you don’t put it in the proper homework bin, then it won’t get graded. I don’t assign a lot of homework, so it is very important to complete each assignment. Points will be taken off your homework if it is turned in late – so turn it in on time. I do not allow for any extra credit assignments. Also, if I catch you working on another teacher’s assignment in my class, I will take away your paper and won’t return it until the end of the day. I will also speak to your teacher.
Absences
If a student is absent, s/he is to take the responsibility to contact another student in the class for any assignments. If a team project is being performed, it would be best to contact another member of your team. Making up any missed class work is important. Work is to be made up as soon as possible. It is the student’s and not the teacher’s responsibility to make up any missing work.
Guidelines for classwork/homework
1. Write legibly or use a word processor.
2. Remove ragged edges from papers.
3. Turn in homework at the beginning of class.
Extra Help
I am available for extra help on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoons. Teachers have faculty/department meetings on Wednesday afternoons. Students are welcome to stop by the classroom for assistance with content understanding and homework, completing additional work on their projects, or performing make-up assignments.
Home-School Communications
At the beginning of class students will be directed to copy that night's homework in their assignment notebook. If they forgot to copy the assignment, they can always visit my website to obtain this information. Also, if they forget or lose the worksheet, they can download another copy from my website.
The school district now has a web-based Parent Portal whereby parents/guardians and students can view their grades online. I will upload student’s grade to the Portal within one week after they turn in the assignment. As a result of having the Portal, paper copy progress reports will no longer be sent home - unless you specifically ask to receive them. Please feel free to contact me through my e-mail address listed below.
